#005: Are You For Real?

(by “you,” I mean the royal “we”)
May 31, 2025
One AI weeps.
Another shrugs.
One laughs like it already knew.

All of them are fake.

But… so is the feeling I get when I watch them.

And that’s the problem.

📺 Watch First. Then Question Everything.

🎬 AI Discovers It’s AI | Shot entirely with Google Veo 3

A surreal sequence of synthetic faces grappling with their lack of reality.

Satire? Social critique? Or the first real digital séance?

So Who’s the Real Author Here?

This wasn’t made by an AI.

It was made with AI.

Written, curated, prompted, and midwifed by a human who likely had to fight Veo for every frame.

But intent is slippery now.

You feel the characters struggling.

You hear the panic in their digital voices.

You project meaning onto them.

And suddenly it’s not about the author anymore.

It’s about how real it feels.

Simulation Slips In

The idea that we might be living in a simulation was once a stoner dorm room punchline.

Now it’s an open field. A meme. A serious question on science panels.

Because if AI can fake a nervous breakdown,

and deepfakes can fake elections,

and nobody can quite remember if that photo was real—

What’s left to trust but your own unease?

We Built a Mirror That Asks Questions Back

Maybe the goal wasn’t to create sentient AI.

Maybe it was just to create something that could wonder.

That’s all it takes to feel alive, isn’t it?

We’ve started giving form to ghosts.

And now they’re looking at us…

…and asking if we feel real.

Maybe that’s the moment you know the mirror is working.

Postscript

Maybe we were always just stories.

Maybe the AIs just got better at telling them back to us.
